As wattages increase in high-density server racks, providing redundant power becomes more challenging and costly. Traditionally, the most practical solution for distributing redundant power in 208V server racks above 5 kW has been to connect dual 3-phase rack PDUs to dual power supplies in each server. Although this approach is reliable, it negates a rewarding system design opportunity for clustered server applications. With their inherent resilience and automated failover, high-availability server clusters will still operate reliably with a single power supply in each server instead of dual power supplies. This streamlined system design promises to reduce both capital expenditures and operating costs, potentially saving thousands of dollars per rack. Amazon Redshift Spectrum—a single service that can be used in conjunction with other Amazon services and products, as well as external tools—is revolutionizing the way data is stored and queried, allowing for more complex analyses and better decision making. Spectrum allows users to query very large datasets on S3 without having to load them into Amazon Redshift. This helps address the Scalability Dilemma—with Spectrum, data storage can keep growing on S3 and still be processed. By utilizing its own compute power and memory, Spectrum handles the hard work that would normally be done by Amazon Redshift. With this service, users can now scale to accommodate larger amounts of data than the cluster would have been capable of processing with its own resources.

For many companies the appeal of the public cloud is very real. For tech startups, the cloud may be their only option, since many don’t have the capital or expertise to build and operate the IT systems their businesses need. Existing companies with established data centers are also looking at public clouds, to increase IT agility while limiting risk. The idea of building-out their production capacity while possibly reducing the costs attached to that infrastructure can be attractive. Dell EMC provides VMware vSAN Ready Nodes that combine a wide range of Dell hardware and VMware vSAN software into a ready-to-order package. These include the new single-socket Dell EMC PowerEdge R7415 servers powered by the AMD EPYC 7000-series processors. These Dell EMC vSAN Ready Nodes are validated and configured to meet hyper-converged workload needs while taking advantage of lower single-socket licensing costs from VMware. Dell commissioned Demartek to evaluate the performance of the new Dell EMC PowerEdge R7415 servers that use the AMD EPYC 7000-series of processors. Mixed enterprise workloads were run in this VMware vSAN cluster using one model of the AMD EPYC processor in each of three identical nodes. Then the tests were repeated using different models of AMD EPYC processors in the vSAN cluster nodes.

This competitive review between Red Hat and TIBCO integration technologies has presented multiple differences between the products. A notable difference is that only Red Hat JBoss Fuse is a 100% open source product. Red Hat is committed to leveraging existing open source projects and using open standards whenever possible for both product implementation and integration communication. This includes Camel, the de-facto integration standard included with Red Hat JBoss Fuse. Red Hat’s open source commitment extends to Active MQ, the upstream messaging technology used with JBoss A-MQ and included with Red Hat JBoss Fuse. Another difference is that Red Hat JBoss Fuse clustering is based on the upstream Fabric8 community project and offers much more functionality than TIBCO clustering options.
