"Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standard 1584 has been the de facto standard for calculating the arc energy levels at different points in a power system. However, NFPA 70E provides the option of using the Arc Flash Hazard PPE Category task tables for PPE selection. Which is right for you, and what do you need to know about each option? Find answers in our white paper, which describes how both types of analysis systems work and how to be sure you are using the tables correctly."

Many of the mysteries of equipment failure, downtime, software and data corruption, are the result of a problematic supply of power. There is also a common problem with describing power problems in a standard way. This white paper will describe the most common types of power disturbances, what can cause them, what they can do to your critical equipment, and how to safeguard your equipment, using the IEEE standards for describing power quality problems.

Given the evolution of past major advances in wireless-LAN technologies, it should come as no surprise that products based on the still-in-development IEEE 802.11ac standard are now appearing across the board, from residence to enterprise. Just as was the case with 802.11g and 802.11n, the standards-development process is now far enough along that the semiconductor community is shipping in volume, the Wi-Fi Alliance has been able to issue an initial interoperability specification, and system-vendor products offering up to 1.3 Gbps are now available at prices very close to those of 802.11n APs but with on the order of a 30% improvement in price/performance on a spectral-efficiency basis and from 100% to more than 200% in performance overall.

For advanced signaling over high-loss channels, designs today are using equalization and several new measurement methods to evaluate the performance of the link. Both simulation and measurement tools support equalization and the new measurement methods, but correlation of results throughout the design flow is unclear. In this paper a high performance equalizing serial data link is measured and the performance is compared to that predicted by simulation. Then, the differences between simulation and measurements are discussed as well as methods to correlate the two.

"As the number of enhancements to various Hardware Description Languages (HDLs) has increased over the past year, so too has the complexity of determining which language is best for a particular design. Many designers and organizations are contemplating whether they should switch from one HDL to another. This paper compares the technical characteristics of three, general-purpose HDLs.

Miercom was engaged to perfirm independent, hands-on, comparative testing of competitive IEEE 802.11ac Wave 2-based WiFi Access Points (APs) from Cisco Systems, Aruba Networks and Ruckus Wireless. This report summarizes the results of the Wave 2 AP comparative testing in these areas: - Client density: Downlink throughput as the number of client per AP scales from 10 to 100. - Single vs Multi-User MIMO: Downlink throughput for MU-MIMO (Multi-User, Multiple-Input Multiple-Output), a hallmark of 802.11ac Wave 2, vs Single-User (SU-MIMO) environments. - 1 Gbps+ Link Aggregation: Tests found that Wave 2 APs can support more than 1Gbps of aggregate downlink throughput, tested over two 1-Gbps LAG (link aggregation) connections.
