As security threats increase and government regulations require more control over users and data, it is important for organizations to evolve their security measures. As enterprises rapidly expand their footprints into cloud, mobile and social, they must ensure that the right users have the right access to sensitive data and applications. Strong as well as optimized identities are becoming increasingly important as insider threat and tightened regulations become more prevalent.

A big part of GDPR compliance will focus on how data is collected going forward. But a substantial emphasis will fall on the data businesses already hold. With many mainframes containing generations-old data, a manual data audit is completely unrealistic. That’s where CA comes in. CA Data Content Discovery enables organizations to find, classify and protect mission essential mainframe data—three valuable steps toward achieving GDPR compliance.

Massive shifts within the digital business landscape are sparking immense opportunities and reshaping every sector. In some cases, complete upheaval is happening at lightning-fast speed. In other instances, digital undercurrents are stirring beneath the surface as organizations scramble to monetize vast volumes and variety of data in an effort to sharpen their competitive edge and not be blindsided by unforeseen events that completely upend existing business models. While long-standing industry leadership might be no match for the next cool app, agility, speed and the ability to harness more data than was ever imagined is fueling powerful possibilities for reinvention among companies of every size. Data is following rapidly from mobile devices and social networks, as well as from every connected product, machine and infrastructure. This data holds the potential for deep insights that can replace guesswork and approximations as to locations, behaviors, patterns and preferences. As the w

In today’s IT infrastructure, data security can no longer be treated as an afterthought, because billions of dollars are lost each year to computer intrusions and data exposures. This issue is compounded by the aggressive build-out for cloud computing. Big data and machine learning applications that perform tasks such as fraud and intrusion detection, trend detection, and click-stream and social media analysis all require forward-thinking solutions and enough compute power to deliver the performance required in a rapidly evolving digital marketplace. Companies increasingly need to drive the speed of business up, and organizations need to support their customers with real-time data. Cloud, social, big data, and the Internet of Things (IoT) are increasingly central to business decisions as the pace of digitization accelerates. The impact of software-defined networking (SDN), virtualization, and converged and hyperconverged infrastructure within the datacenter is substantial. These technologies add complexity but offer enticing opportunities for new business models, revenue streams, operating efficiencies, and agility that organizations must pursue if they want to remain competitive and viable. This pursuit requires businesses to keep up with current and emerging technologies and applications and transform the ways in which they conduct business. At the core of "keeping up" is an organization's datacenter strategy — with an associated technology and services strategy that will either create industry laggards or accelerate innovators.

Today, data is constantly flowing in and out of organizations from electrical and mechanical sensors, RFID tags, smart meters, scanners, mobile devices, vehicles, live social media, machines and other objects. Did you know that a modern plane with more than 10,000 sensors just in the wings is expected to generate more than 7 terabytes a day? And Bain predicts that by 2020 annual revenues could exceed $470 billion for the internet of things (IoT) vendors selling hardware, software and comprehensive solutions. Analysts believe that all of this data will drive a new type of industrial revolution – one that’s driven by highly accurate, real-time analysis, alerts and actions. Increasingly, machines will automate decisions and simply notify humans with instructions. Consider the promise of the IoT, where any object can be connected to the internet and continuously send and receive data. Gartner says that by 2020, 21 billion IoT devices will be in use worldwide.

There’s strong evidence organizations are challenged by the opportunities presented by external information sources such as social media, government trend data, and sensor data from the Internet of Things (IoT). No longer content to use internal databases alone, they see big data resources augmented with external information resources as what they need in order to bring about meaningful change. According to a September 2015 global survey of 251 respondents conducted by Harvard Business Review Analytic Services, 78 percent of organizations agree or strongly agree that within two years the use of externally generated big data will be “transformational.” But there’s work to be done, since only 21 percent of respondents strongly agree that external data has already had a transformational effect on their firms.

Marketers have access to more customer data (big data) than ever before. But the quantity of data only matters if you’re smart about using it—to power 1:1 customer journeys.

Enterprises are leveraging advancements in what IDC calls “3rd Platform” technologies — cloud, Big Data, mobility, and social — to create new business opportunities and gain competitive advantage. These trends are putting more pressure on IT organizations to transform their datacenter operations to better support business initiatives aimed at reducing costs, increasing revenue, and strengthening customer relationships. This has driven increased demand for converged or integrated systems that provide the tools needed to reduce capital costs, improve operational efficiencies and, ultimately, increase agility within the datacenter.
