Many companies have introduced solutions such as TCP/IP Offload Engines (TOE) Network Interface Cards (TNICs), Network Interface Cards (NICs), and iSCSI Host Bus Adapters (HBAs) to solve efficiency and throughout challenges. However, the functionality of these solutions is quite varied, and in some cases, rapidly becoming obsolete.

While marketers usually look first to customer facing applications when making technology acquisitions, taking into account the entire marketing value chain--from strategic brief to a personalized communication--is the best way to look at achieving marketing ROI. Too often, investments in customer facing technology fail to account for operational burdens created upstream in the marketing process.

The challenge of creating a robust errors database, the core of iCheck, is that information must be pulled from a multitude of disparate sources. Sometimes, the data source is a database with its unique schema and field names that must be mapped to the iCheck database. Other times, the data source is a text file which must be accessed via FTP, parsed, and loaded into iCheck. And other times, the data is in RETS (Real Estate Transaction Standard) format, a real estate data format similar to XML, which is accessed via HTTP.

Before turning to AutoMate, nightly processes were performed by running a mish-mash of batch processes manually after work hours. Even though banks typically close at 4 or 5pm, there is a lot that happens at night to get ready for the next business day. A typical night consisted of 1 or 2 persons staying until 10 or 11pm to make sure all the nightly operations, backups, file transmissions, etc. were finished and validated.

Often, the insurance underwriters stay late that last day of the month to enter new policies. This means that IT staff have a very small window to execute the applications critical to successful and error-free closing of the accounting books. IT staff had to run and baby sit the applications – one application requiring manual operation took over three hours to complete, another that uploads premium and claim information to the data warehouse took up to six hours.
